Kong: Skull Island movie explained

In 1944, Lieutenant Hank Marlow (Will Brittain) crashes his plane somewhere over the South Pacific, and after jumping out, he lands with his parachute on an island. Gunpei Ikari, a new soldier, lands (Miyavi). Ikari sees Marlow draw his gun, and he fires, missing. Ikari pulls a gun and starts pursuing Marlow. They flee into the woods and engage in combat as they approach a cliff. Marlow yanks the sword away from Ikari as he almost stabs him. Ikari then has Marlow on the ground and is about to kill him when a huge ape hand materializes. The two men then observe the ape (Terry Notary) ascending above them. Washington, DC, in the year 1973. Senator Willis (Richard Jenkins) is waiting to meet with Bill Randa, a representative of the government, and geologist Houston Brooks to discuss funding for an expedition to the recently discovered Skull Island.
