Kong: Skull Island movie explained

In 1944, Lieutenant Hank Marlow (Will Brittain) crashes his plane somewhere over the South Pacific, and after jumping out, he lands with his parachute on an island. Gunpei Ikari, a new soldier, lands (Miyavi). Ikari sees Marlow draw his gun, and he fires, missing. Ikari pulls a gun and starts pursuing Marlow. They flee into the woods and engage in combat as they approach a cliff. Marlow yanks the sword away from Ikari as he almost stabs him. Ikari then has Marlow on the ground and is about to kill him when a huge ape hand materializes. The two men then observe the ape (Terry Notary) ascending above them. Washington, DC, in the year 1973. Senator Willis (Richard Jenkins) is waiting to meet with Bill Randa, a representative of the government, and geologist Houston Brooks to discuss funding for an expedition to the recently discovered Skull Island. Willis isn't all that excited about the concept, but Randa prods him into giving in. Randa informs Willis that he would also like a military escort before leaving. On their final day together before they can depart for their destination, the Sky Devils squadron has gathered. Colonel Preston Packard, played by Samuel L. Besides Glenn Mills (Jason Mitchell), who is Packard's right-hand man, there are also Captain Earl Cole (Shea Whigham), Slivko (Thomas Mann), Reles (Eugene Cordero), and Jack Chapman (Toby Kebell). When Packard gets the call about the expedition, he gladly accepts the position. In a bar, Randa and Brooks locate James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston), a former British Special Air Service captain, who agrees to be their tracker. Conrad is confronted by two customers of the bar who accuse him of cheating during a game of pool, but he quickly subdues the men. They have found their guide, Randa tells Brooks after being immediately impressed. Conrad sits down with Brooks and Randa to learn about their strategy. When he hears their offer, he demands more money and warns them that there's a good chance the trip will result in their death due to factors like dangerous weather or predatory animals. Anti-war photographer Mason Weaver (Brie Larson) is developing some images of the Vietnam War conflict inside a darkroom. She receives a call inviting her to join the expedition, and she travels to the base to meet Packard and his men as well as a group of scientists from the company Landsat, including Brooks' fellow geologist San Lin (Jing Tian), as well as Victor Nieves (John Ortiz) and Steve (Marc Evan Jackson) from Landsat. Weaver has doubts about the mission and believes that the military is preparing a bad plan. Brooks describes the objective and what they expect to discover on Skull Island. Before flying to the island in choppers, the team launches a sail into the water. They must travel through storm-like clouds, but they are able to locate a high-pressure pocket that they think will provide a safer path. The choppers fly across the region after a choppy trip through the storm. While the soldiers start burying seismic charges into the ground, Weaver snaps a few pictures as explosions happen. It doesn't take long for one of the helicopters to crash to the ground after being struck by a tree that was thrown through it. The group then notices Kong looming over them. Before grabbing more and slamming them into the ground, he sends another tree through a chopper. Once they hit the ground, the surviving team members are split up. Packard looks up at Kong, who turns to face him while surrounded by flames emanating from the wreckage of the choppers. At point-blank range, Packard confronts Randa and demands to know what actually led them there. Randa acknowledges that his organization, Monarch, needs evidence that monsters like Kong exist and that he has known about their existence for some time. While Randa, Packard, Mills, Cole, and other soldiers head out to search for Chapman because he is armed with enough ammunition that Packard plans to use against Kong, Conrad, Weaver, Brooks, Lin, Slivko, and Nieves are grouped together. One of the soldiers suddenly stops as they are moving through a bamboo forest because a bamboo tree has impaled him through the mouth. They are being attacked by a huge spider that is hovering above them. The rest of the soldiers begin amputating its legs as Mills is pulled up by the webbing. As Packard shoots the spider to death, Mills releases himself. Chapman is alone and close to a river. He observes Kong crossing the river to attend to a gunshot wound he sustained. After taking a drink from the river, Kong discovers a massive octopus. Before beginning to eat it, he wrestles with it and repels its tentacles. Afterward, he drags the octopus carcass away.A native tribe has surrounded Conrad's group. As they make an effort to defend themselves, an older Marlow (now portrayed by John C. Reilly). Then, he extends an invitation for the group to proceed past the wall after assuring both groups that they are not harmful to one another. Marlow informs the group that he has spent the past 28 years on the island and has gained extensive knowledge of the locals and the island itself. They worship Kong as a god because he has been defending them from the underground monsters that have been eradicating the local population for centuries as well as from Kong's own family. They are referred to as "Skull Crawlers" by Marlow. They stayed underground until they were awakened by the seismic charge explosions. Skull Crawlers will take control of the island if anything happens to Kong. He further asserts that there is a much larger Skull Crawler than the ones that have surfaced and that those that have been seen are just juveniles. Chapman strolls through the woods by himself and finds a log to sit on. The log is actually a massive insect. Chapman fires at it, but the animal doesn't strike back. A Skull Crawler kills Chapman as the creature flees. In order to be rescued, Conrad informs Marlow that they intend to arrive at their rendezvous location on the island's north side within three days. Marlow agrees to lead them in the right direction because he believes it cannot be accomplished on foot in three days. He bids the natives farewell before boarding a boat with the crew. Soon after leaving on her horse, Nieves is captured by carnivorous birds and torn apart in midair. Along the way, Weaver notices a large water buffalo trapped beneath a helicopter that has crashed. Kong appears and pulls the chopper off as she attempts to lift it up to release the buffalo. He briefly looks down at Weaver before walking away. She doesn't seem as terrified as she does awed by him.Kong's ancestors and the Skull Crawlers once fought there, and now Marlow is leading the group into The Forbidden Zone. The vast remains of Kong's family are scattered across the field. The group is forced to hide when a Skull Crawler shows up. Conrad notices the skull and dog tags that the Skull Crawler then spits out as belonging to Chapman. The same area is where Packard and his men arrive. A Skull Crawler snatches Randa while she is taking pictures and eats her. A second creature appears and begins to attack, entrapping victims in its mouth. The Skull Crawlers and a wave of carnivorous birds continue to attack the groups. Before giving it to Conrad, Marlow draws the sword that belonged to Ikari and slashes through a number of the birds. One is put to death by Weaver by chucking a lighter into a hole that releases fumes, which are ignited and set the animal ablaze. They come together after the fight. In his pursuit of Chapman, Packard is unwavering. In order to prove Packard Chapman's demise, Conrad displays his dog tags. Packard is still determined to exact revenge for the deaths of his men, despite the objections of Marlow, Conrad, and Weaver, and wants to search for Chapman's ammunition cache so that they can kill Kong. Packard assembles a variety of explosives that evening and sets Kong up for a trap. Weaver approaches the beast cautiously as Conrad and Weaver come into contact with him. He is kind when she puts her hand on his face. Kong's fur is burned after Packard singes it and draws it toward him while lighting the fuel near the water. Before collapsing, Kong stomps on Steve and kills another man. Conrad and Weaver then attempt to stop Packard as he prepares to detonate some explosives. They persuade the other soldiers that they require Kong in order to repel the Skull Crawlers. Packard keeps up his resolute attitude as the soldiers turn on him. The group is immediately forced to flee as the largest Skull Crawler emerges from the ground. However, Packard is crushed under Kong's fist as he waits to set off the explosives. The main Skull Crawler then pursues the survivors as they make their way toward the shore. Cole stays behind and uses the explosives he has strapped to himself to sacrifice himself. Cole is however tail-whipped into a wall by the monster, and he explodes anyhow. Until Kong reappears and slams into the beast, the Skull Crawler is moving toward the group. Kong drives the beast with a ship's propeller connected to a piece of anchor chain before slashing it in the throat. The best is still alive and has launched another assault. The Skull Crawler is struck in the face by Weaver using a flare gun. When Kong grabs the Skull Crawler and throws him against the wall, Weaver unintentionally falls into the river. In addition to fighting the Skull Crawler, Kong pulls Weaver out. The monster's guts are yanked out by ramming his fist down its throat. Kong then sets Weaver down next to Conrad before departing. The survivors (Conrad, Weaver, Marlow, Brooks, Lin, Mills, Slivko, and Reles) board the boat shortly after, and three helicopters arrive to pick them up. Kong keeps watch in the distance to continue guarding his domain. He roars and pounds his fist. Video of Marlow's final trip back to Chicago, where he finally meets his adult son and sees his wife once more, is shown as the credits roll. After that, he settles down to enjoy a hot dog and a beer while watching a Cubs game. After the credits, Monarch is holding Conrad and Weaver in a questioning space. Brooks and Lin walk into the room and inform the two that there have always been monsters in this world and that Kong was not the only one. Before turning on a slideshow, Brooks takes out some documents, among them a map of Tokyo. The slides depict a different team discovering cave paintings of Mothra, King Ghidorah, Rodan, and Godzilla himself. The roars of Kong and Godzilla combined are the last thing we hear.
