Independence Day: Resurgence movie explained

On the mothership of the alien race, the story begins in space. From the first Independence Day movie, a creature is watching Thomas Whitmore's (Bill Pullman) stirring speech during the battle that happened 20 years earlier. The creature growls, but Whitmore is startled to realize that it is just a nightmare. The current president Elizabeth Lanford (Sela Ward) employs Whitmore's daughter Patricia (Maika Monroe). Patty was a pilot for the military, but she left her position to care for her father, who is now more frail and troubled due to the invasion. Dylan , played by Jessie T., is a friend of hers. Usher), the late Steven Hiller's son who passed away after the conflict. The military pilots' captain is Dylan. Following the conflict, the so-called Earth Space Defense was created, with Area 51 serving as its administrative center. Jake Morrison (Liam Hemsworth), Patty's , is repairing a machine with his best friend Charlie (Travis Toth) on a base on the moon. Jake uses his pod to lift the machine and firmly anchor it in place after it begins to loosen and almost fall onto the base. Later, General Jiang Lao (Chin Han), his superior, scolds him. A few captive aliens who have been kept alive since the first battle are taken to the prison by General Joshua Adams (William Fichtner). They had reportedly been catatonic for the previous 20 years, but just a few hours ago, they all abruptly woke up and started acting strangely. In order to meet with warlord Dikimbe Umbutu David Levinson travels to Africa with Rosenberg (Nicolas Wright). Dr. Catherine Marceaux, played by Charlotte Gainsbourg, is an old flame of David's. They have arrived at the scene of an alien ship that has crashed, one with a brand-new form and arrangement that they have never seen. Levinson and Marceaux discover that the ship was drilling into the Earth at that time, but they are unable to pinpoint the reason for it. Umbutu explains to the group how he and his men overcame the aliens and took their weapons. Umbutu says he has had visions of the aliens. Additionally, the ship they've discovered has sent a distress signal to its home planet.Charlie falls in love with Jiang's niece Rain , who pays a visit to the astronauts on the moon. Dylan also shows up, which causes conflict because Jake nearly killed him during training. By punching Jake in the face, Dylan returns the favor. Jiang sternly reprimands them both. The moon base observes an approaching spherical craft. People in Africa and Lanford's staff can also see it on Earth. Lanford decides to shoot down the craft because he views it as a threat. The laser cannon of the moon team fires at it, sending it flying backwards. All teams rejoice, believing they have defeated the aliens once more. Jake takes David, Catherine, Umbutu, and Floyd from Africa to the crash site of the craft on the moon, where they discover a sizable container and retrieve it. We then cut to David's aging father Julius (Judd Hirsch), who is promoting a book at a retirement community and asserts that he was the one who saved the planet. After 20 years in a coma, Dr. Brakish Okun (Brent Spiner) has finally emerged from it in a hospital. His room's walls are covered in alien symbols that he scrawls as soon as he gets out of bed. The downing of the craft and the 20th anniversary of the victory over the invaders are both celebrated in Washington, DC, on Earth. A number of survivors of the initial alien invasion are present, including the elderly and frail General Gray (Robert Loggia). For their efforts, Lanford praises the moon team. Unexpectedly approaching to speak, Thomas attempts to inform everyone that "they're coming back" as he is introduced. He, Umbutu, and Brakish all sense at the same moment that an enormous ship, many times bigger than the first mothership, is approaching Earth from the same height. When it first hits the moon base, Jiang and several other people are killed, and Rain witnesses this. The ship levitates parts of China and Dubai as it crosses the North Atlantic Ocean, wreaking havoc wherever it goes. Skyscrapers, cars, and people are levitated in the air and crash back to earth in London, Shanghai, and Dubai, all of which are completely destroyed. Dylan spots his mother Jasmine (Vivica A. Fox) amid the confusion. Fox), who is employed in a hospital, is seen escorting a mother and her infant to the roof. The mother and her child are saved, but Dylan is saddened to see Jasmine die when the building caves in beneath her. While the attack is underway, Julius is on his boat and is hit by a sizable wave, but he manages to survive.Later, Jake comes across Dylan and expresses sympathy. He claims to understand the suffering of others because his parents died in the first alien attack when he was a young boy, and he regrets the last thing he said to them: "I hate you.". Thomas visits the cell where an alien prisoner is being held. In front of Patty and other soldiers, he approaches it to try to communicate with it, but it grabs him with a tentacle. Using Thomas, the alien announces "she" is on her way. The alien responds angrily when Patty displays a picture of a sphere. The alien's cell is broken open when the soldiers shoot at it. As the alien wriggles free of its bio-mechanical exoskeleton, Umbutu kills it. The military receives an infrared reading from the new mothership, where they see the Alien Queen in a chamber at the top of the craft. If they can kill the Queen, they reason, they can stop her fleet. The retaliatory attack is approved by Lanford. Attacked by both the mothership and a new type of alien attacker ship, the recently upgraded Earth air force encounters fierce resistance. When an alien comes into their path, the pilots fly into the ship and start firing on them. In the Northern Atlantic, the new mothership uses a powerful beam to drill into the planet's core. A boat full of gold-seeking men is contacted nearby, and they are offered money in exchange for their assistance in stopping the drilling and sending back information. They joke with the government and request $100 million, and they immediately receive it. They begin their monitoring right away. Also attacked by the alien warriors was Lanford's command bunker in the Colorado mountains, where she and the majority of her Cabinet were killed. Adams is appointed her replacement at Area 51 without delay. Four children who had been separated from their parents and were leaving Florida when they found Julius on Earth. The oldest girl Sam (Joey King), who is responsible for caring for her siblings but has no idea what happened to their parents, is consoled by Julius. Julius drives until they come across a school bus loaded with children whose driver abandoned them. The four children are loaded onto the bus by Julius, who also drives the other children.Brakish, meanwhile, opens the container and finds a sizable white sphere resembling the one that was shot down. Floyd touches it to activate it because he doesn't know how to open it, and the sphere starts to move. It speaks English and explains how the alien harvesters wiped out the race to which it belongs. The aliens had taken their planet's core and used it to fuel their ships, as they had done to countless other planets. The sphere also details its failed attempts to evacuate Earth after the moon team shot down the ship required for the mission. The pilots begin to understand that it's a trap and that the Queen is aware of their approach as they move closer to her. The aliens use an EMP-like blast to take out the pilots' weapons systems and jets. Before being put to death, Jake, Dylan, Charlie, and Rain all succeed in escaping. The large ship's queen's chamber splits off and takes off in search of the extraterrestrial sphere. In order to kill the Queen with a nuclear weapon, a plan is made to entice her to a remote location. Patty offers to lead the attack, but Thomas escapes before she can because he knows he will be killed. David gets ready at the scene of the attack as the other pilots prepare to engage in combat. The Queen's shields begin to fall as Thomas flies into the ship. Once she is caught in the trap, Thomas sets the bombs off, scuttling the ship while losing his life. Everyone prematurely celebrates because they believe the Queen has passed away. She is, in fact, very much alive. The 100-foot-tall angry Queen attacks the pilots who are trying to take her out as she runs amok through the deserted area. Additionally, every minute brings the drill one step closer to the core. Julius steers the bus in that direction, toward David. The Queen moves to attack the bus. Patty shoots at the Queen's shields while flying her jet above her. As the Queen's fleet begins to swarm around her for defense, she is able to take them out. In an effort to gather enough speed to separate from the horde for a fresh attack, Jake, Dylan, Charlie, and Rain fly around in the swarm. They escape and fire at the Queen from behind. She is fatally wounded, erupts from her exoskeleton, and thrashes until she finally shatters and dies. Drilling stops after the other aliens are destroyed. Once more, Earth is rescued. After leaving Earth, the mothership ascends. Following their reunion, Jake and Patty share a kiss. Rain responds, "Dinner first," much to Charlie's delight, to his attempts to initiate that conversation. Then, Brakish brings the sphere to the pilots and his son, telling them that if they take the battle with the aliens into space before they return, it will provide them with new technology and weapons. Everyone is in agreement, and Brakish ends the movie by stating that it's time to "kick alien ass.
