San Andreas movie explained

Beginning in the San Fernando Valley of California, San Andreas shows a young woman driving along a cliffside. From the cliff above, rocks pelt her car, forcing her off the road. For the Los Angeles Fire Department's search and rescue division, Ray Gaines (Dwayne Johnson), the movie's main character, pilots a helicopter. Ray pilots the helicopter into the perilous ravine with a reporter inside. In order to save the woman from the falling car before it plummets hundreds of feet, he and his crew lower themselves on ropes. Dr. A lecture by Caltech seismologist Lawrence Hayes on the most destructive earthquakes in recorded history comes to a close. When there is seismic activity in Nevada, his colleague Dr. Kim Park alerts him. The two make the exciting decision to look into the tremors at the Hoover Dam. The following day, Ray intends to drive Blake to her new university in Seattle. As soon as he arrives home from work and discovers his ex-wife's divorce papers, he speaks with her on the phone. He visits his daughter's old room and peruses the family's old San Francisco trip pictures. Dr. Hayes and Dr. Kim are confirming their findings in person while they are at the Hoover Dam. Their computer readings suddenly increase, and an earthquake with a magnitude of 7 points 1 strikes the region. As Hayes rushes people off the dam and Kim climbs from inside of it, the dam bursts. As the dam collapses alongside him, Kim sacrifices himself by saving a terrified girl and dumping her into Hayes' arms. Ray learns from the chief that he is required to help with the earthquake response in Nevada. He puts his phone in his pocket and makes his way to Daniel's house, where he will be meeting for the first time. Daniel is his ex's new boyfriend. Daniel offers to drive Blake after all but says he can't. The conversation also reveals to Ray that Emma is relocating with Daniel. Blake's bicycle is left by Ray, who then storms off in a huff. In order to take care of some business as a real estate developer before they continue north, Blake takes Daniel's private jet to San Francisco. He assures her that he will not obstruct her father-daughter bond. Blake waits in the lobby of Daniel's office building until his meeting is over as they arrive by car. She meets Ben, a shy young Englishman applying for a job who is nervous. Ollie, his younger brother, who is also present, remarks on Blake's beauty and requests her phone number on his brother's behalf. When Ray calls from his helicopter, Emma is eating lunch on the top floor of the Marriott in downtown Los Angeles. He expresses regret for his previous day's attitude. The city is suddenly rocked by an earthquake. Ray tells her to climb up to the roof and that he will meet her there. Ray saves Emma by securing her to the helicopter with a rope as the surrounding buildings collapse. As Blake and Daniel leave the building's parking lot in San Francisco, an earthquake occurs. The driver is killed by a falling beam, and Blake is pinned between the driver's seatback and the beam. A security guard inside the building informs Daniel that he can get help as he runs from the parking lot. Ben and his brother overhear and identify Blake. The guard is struck by a piece of floor, knocking Daniel out of his senses. He leaves Blake behind as he stumbles out of the structure. By using a carjack to lift the concrete that is securing Blake, Ben and Ollie locate her and free her. Once outside, they come across an electronics shop, where Blake sets up a system to call her father even when cellphone signals are weak. In order to rescue her, Ray promises to fly up to San Francisco. Coit Tower, where they had once celebrated a birthday, was chosen as the meeting location. She informs Emma that Daniel left her after being shocked to learn that her mother is with him. Emma calls Daniel and leaves a voicemail, threatening to kill him if he isn't already dead. They both grinned. Ray's helicopter experiences gearbox failure while traveling to the north. Due to this, he and Emma are forced to make a crash landing at a Bakersfield mall. As the earthquake chaos spreads around them, people are looting. After Ray takes the man's gun who was threatening him, they rob a truck. In the car, Ray and Emma talk about how Mallory's death made Ray emotionally distant from Emma. Emma asserts that she left because of his refusal to discuss it. They proceed on their way until they come to a section of the road where the San Andreas fault has ripped the ground apart. They have no other choice but to exchange their stolen truck for a couple whose car has broken down. They are shown to a small plane in a hangar in return by the couple. Ray apologizes before they take off for not handling his grief better. He claims that because he convinced Mallory to go rafting with him, he feels accountable for her drowning. Emma claims that nobody could save her if he couldn't. Ray and Emma take a flight to San Francisco. Blake, Ben, and Ollie observe that the Coit Tower is surrounded by flames and devastation. After turning around, they move toward Nob Hill, another prominent landmark. Ray and Emma jump from the plane in tandem after realizing there is nowhere to land and land in the middle of the baseball diamond at ATandT Park. Just as they leave the stadium, a 9.6 earthquake occurs, and Ray directs everyone he sees to seek shelter next to a stadium wall. Blake, Ben, and Ollie are still alive in the meantime, but Ben has a piece of glass stuck in his leg, which Blake removes. They continue moving forward. Ray and Emma decide to take a boat from the nearby dock and travel through the bay to Coit Tower after realizing that the city is impassable. They notice it and understand Blake must be somewhere else. Ray and Emma are startled to realize a tsunami is coming when the water level abruptly changes. Realizing the same thing, Blake, Ben, and Ollie sprint up the stairs of a building Daniel's firm was constructing. Driving their boat toward the tsunami, Ray and Emma manage to cross it just before it crests. However, they barely avoid being crushed by a container ship that the wave flips over. Daniel is standing on the Golden Gate Bridge when it is crushed by the ship. After the effects of the tsunami have subsided, the city is in ruins and Blake's building is flooded. Blake is submerged as more tsunami waters come in, but Ray and Emma manage to get to her and the boys before Blake is trapped. Ray swims into the building by diving beneath the surface. Ray pulls Blake out after she passes out while being imprisoned behind a glass panel. To get to the others, Emma pilots the boat through a window. As the building crumbles, they leave in their car. Ray is unable to save Blake outside in the calmer water. Emma sobs over yet another missing daughter. Suddenly, Ray attempts CPR once more, this time successfully restarting Blake's breathing. Dr. The journalist and Hayes congratulate one another on getting the message out in time to save numerous lives. The arrival of FEMA and other recovery volunteers in California to aid earthquake victims is reported in the news. Blake and Ben appear to have started dating while Ray and Emma have patched up their marriage at a rehab facility. The survivors stand together in the light of the setting sun as an American flag unfolds over the destroyed Golden Gate Bridge. When Emma inquires about the next steps, Ray responds, "We rebuild. ".
