Skyfall movie explained

The movie opens in Istanbul, where James Bond (Daniel Craig) discovers MI6 agent Ronson critically injured and the hard drive of a nearby laptop missing, with its contents still a mystery. With the assistance of MI6 agent Eve (Naomie Harris), Bond pursues the adversary, a hitman by the name of Patrice (Ola Rapace), across the tiled roofs of the Istanbul Grand Bazaar first by car, then by motorcycle, until the two men ultimately end up on a train. While attempting to board Patrice's vehicle, Bond is shot in the shoulder by Patrice. When the train is moving, the two start fighting hand-to-hand on top of it, while farther along the line, Eve has set up shop with a rifle and is prepared to kill Patrice. Eve is unable to get a clear shot because of the ongoing struggle between Bond and Patrice. Eve follows M's (Judi Dench) instructions and fires the shot. As Bond appears to be dead, he is struck and falls into the river below. M starts drafting Bond's obituary a few months later. The chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee, Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes), calls her to a meeting the following day. The names of every NATO undercover agent who has been infiltrated by terrorist groups around the world are listed on the missing hard drive, according to Mallory. Mallory suggests that M should retire or, better yet, be made to retire with full honors as a result of her poor handling of the situation. She declines and goes back to work. Bill Tanner, M's assistant, finds that MI6's database is being remotely hacked from M's computer as they travel there, according to Rory Kinnear. They rush back to MI6 headquarters but are halted by police setting up a roadblock in front of the structure. A large explosion that kills several workers tears through a portion of the building just as M is about to protest to the police officers. While this is happening, Bond is still alive and well in a tropical paradise, having fun with women and drinking. He pretended to die, then went into hiding. But after watching a CNN news report about the attack on MI6, he chooses to end his vacation early. Bond confronts M at her home when he gets back to London, and she informs him that he has been pronounced dead and that his possessions have been stored. He asks to reenlist, and M agrees, but he must retake the tests to become a field agent. The evaluation of Bond begins after he is brought to MI6's new underground base. In poor physical condition, Bond is found. He also has a hard time relearning how to shoot. He painstakingly removes some of the Patrice's gunshot fragments that were still lodged in his shoulder and sends them off for testing. Bond is summoned to M's office where he runs into Eve, who has been suspended from field duty and is now assisting Mallory in assuming M's duties. Bond is surprised that one of M's less appealing desk decorations, a white china bulldog with a Union Jack flag painted on its back, survived the explosion in M's office. M informs Bond that he just about passed his reassessment and is now free to carry on with normal duties. First encounter with Mallory, who cautions Bond not to "cock it up" in regards to his new mission, occurs. Only a small number of operatives worldwide use a specialized form of depleted uranium, according to an analysis of the shrapnel that came from Bond's shoulder. Bond recognizes Patrice right away when three people using this type of ammunition are shown in photos. Patrice is a skilled hitman and a ghost, according to Tanner, who also points out that he has no other known monikers or aliases. Patrice will be in Shanghai in two days, possibly for another assignment, according to information from the CIA. M gives Bond the go-ahead to go to Shanghai in search of Patrice, question him about the list, and then kill him as retaliation for Ronson's death. After Bond departs, Tanner asks about his return to the field and claims he was unaware that Bond had successfully completed his evaluation. Tanner is informed by M that Bond failed. She sends Bond to a gallery to meet the new Quartermaster, or "Q," played by Ben Whishaw, beforehand. Q is a young man who gives Bond a radio locator and a brand-new Walther PPK equipped with a hand-print sensor, allowing only Bond to operate the firearm. From the time Patrice lands at the airport until the time Bond arrives in Shanghai, he follows Patrice. Patrice rides in a taxi to a downtown skyscraper. Patrice uses a suppressed pistol to shoot the on-duty security guard as Bond watches from his car, then enters the elevator. Bond enters after him and climbs aboard the elevator by holding onto a bar on the cab's underside. Patrice enters a server room on his floor after being followed closely by Bond. He moves over to a window, puts together a sniper's rifle, and makes a circular hole in the glass. Patrice puts his rifle through the gap and focuses on a senior Chinese businessman who is having a meeting with an unknown woman in a building across the street. Patrice fires his rifle, striking the man in the back of the head, as the businessman's bodyguards pull back a sheet to reveal a priceless Amedeo Modigliani painting. At that point, Bond attacks Patrice and engages in a struggle for the weapon with her. After a brief struggle, Patrice is forced to fall through a broken window, but Bond grabs his right arm and asks, "Who is your employer?" before he does. Bond loses control after Patrice fails to respond, causing Patrice to fall and die. Before Bond vanishes into the night, the unidentified woman across the street keeps glancing at him. Patrice's equipment includes a Macau casino chip, which Bond discovers. M checks her computer at home in London. She receives a message in the form of a "Click here to claim your prize" advertisement. A YouTube video containing the identities of five of their unknown attacker's agents and a promise to release five more each week appears when she clicks "here.". Think on your sins, says one of the messages in the communiqué.The movie opens in Istanbul, where James Bond (Daniel Craig) discovers MI6 agent Ronson seriously injured and the hard drive of a nearby laptop missing, with its contents still a mystery. A YouTube video containing the identities of five of their unknown attacker's agents and a promise to release five more each week appears when she clicks "here.". The communique includes a message that says, "Think on your sins.". Back in his hotel room, Bond gets a surprise visit from Eve, who informs him of the events in London. Eve gives Bond a face and neck shaving as they flirt. The cashier, who mistakenly thinks Bond is the hitman, gives Bond a briefcase containing 4 million euros for the assassination after he hands in the chip at the casino. The woman Bond saw in Shanghai is there when he receives the money. She reveals herself as Sévérine (Bérénice Marlohe) and requests a drink from Bond. With Sévérine, Bond converses while sitting at the bar. She makes a few polite sounds and even smiles a few times, but it all seems very forced. Sévérine keeps looking nervously at her three bodyguards as they converse, and Bond surmises that they are controlling her rather than guarding her. She gets nervous and gets up to leave when Bond says he wants to meet her employer. She is stopped by Bond, who points out the tattoo on her right wrist that indicates she once worked in the Macau sex trade. Bond is about to be killed, but Sévérine warns him to meet her at her yacht and kill her employer if he survives. As Bond exits the casino, Sévérine's bodyguards attack him. Before being tackled into a pit of Komodo dragons by the third one, he defeats the first two of them with the briefcase. The palm-print ID prevents the third henchman from firing Bond's "signature" pistol, despite his best efforts. The Komodo dragons seize the henchman at that point and drag him into the shadows where they will eat him. One of the other two henchmen aims a pistol at Bond as he returns to the bridge and prepares to shoot him, but Eve takes the shot away from him. Put it all on red," Bond instructs Eve as he hands her the case containing the money. It's part of life's cycle. Bond arrives at Sévérine's yacht and takes a ride with her, joining her as she gets ready. Several of the undercover agents from the YouTube video who were identified have been killed back in London, and news of their demise has been published online. The Prime Minister has ordered her to appear before an inquiry, Mallory informs M. Mallory insists that MI6 be held accountable to the people they are securing, despite M's reluctance, and that there should be no more hiding places in the shadows. M responds by saying that the individual pursuing them also hails from the shadows, where Bond is from. Bond and Sévérine's yacht is approaching an island full of abandoned structures the following morning. Bond turns on Q's tiny radio before meeting with his host. When Sévérine suggests that they turn around, the other members of the boat's crew encircle them. Their hands are bound as they are held captive, along with Bond and Sévérine. They proceed through the deserted streets as Sévérine reveals that her employer used a computer to trick everyone who used to live there into leaving the area overnight by making them believe the chemical plant had a leak. At that point, the henchmen separate Bond and Sévérine and send them off in separate directions. Bond is led to a room containing numerous computer servers and restrained to a chair. At the opposite end of the room, an elevator begins to descend as he sits down. Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem) enters through the doors. Silva reveals that he was a former MI6 agent whom M betrayed by allowing him to be held captive and subjected to torture at the hands of the enemy; M apparently gave him up because she thought his methods were too risky. Silva also reveals that M sent Bond on a mission despite the fact that he failed all of his tests, which appears to have damaged Bond's confidence in her. Bond and Silva then make their way outside to a courtyard where Sévérine is bound and battered. A small shot glass of whiskey is placed on Sévérine's head by Silva, who then tells her to stand up straight and issues a challenge for Bond to shoot the glass off. Silva doesn't waste any time in shooting her in the forehead after Bond's shaky shooting hand misses (possibly on purpose). Silva's men are suddenly defeated and killed by Bond, but Silva is left unharmed. Silva finds it strange that Bond wants to send him back to M alone. The radio transmitter that Q gave Bond allows Bond to then demonstrate the presence of others. Helicopters from MI6 fly over the island as planned. Silva is now housed in a luxurious isolation cell back at MI6's underground headquarters. M confronts Silva about his attacks, but he questions her as to why she left him, demonstrating how his hydrogen cyanide capsule failed to kill him and left his face deformed—it destroyed much of his upper jaw, some of his teeth, and his left cheekbone, forcing him to wear a prosthetic. M responds to Silva's reprimand by threatening to have his name removed from the MI6 memorial wall. M leaves, visibly shaken, after discovering she must accompany the MP to a public hearing. She orders Bond and Q to search Silva's laptop for any evidence as she leaves. She also reveals to Bond that Silva's real name is Tiago Rodriguez and that he was one of MI6's top operatives before the protectorate was turned over to China in 1997, operating out of Hong Kong. In exchange for several agents they were holding as prisoners and the peaceful handover of Hong Kong in 1997, M gave him up to the Chinese government when he started acting outside of MI6's authority. Q tries to connect Silva's computer to the MI6 network while Bond watches. He observes Silva's failsafe protocols, which only six people in the entire world are capable of developing. The files are ultimately successfully decrypted. Silva's files use obfuscated code, according to Q, to hide their true intent. Silva confidently gets to his feet in his cell, stretches, and zips his shirt. He is asked by a guard if he has somewhere to go. M and Tanner are currently appearing before a tribunal that is being presided over by MP Claire Dowar. As a result of M's improper handling of the security breaches and the deaths of her agents, the inquiry board closely examines and criticizes M. Silva is keeping his computer coded with a polymorphic engine, Q discovers in Silva's lab. Granborough Road, which Bond recalls as an abandoned Metropolitan line tube station, is formed from some of the letters in the decoder, which Bond notices form two words. The coding on the big screen transforms into a map of underground London using the word Granborough as a key. To Q's surprise, the floor-mounted glass trap doors suddenly flip open. Silva has hacked them again, Bond realizes. Following the message "NOT SUCH A CLEVER BOY," the words "System Security Breach" appear on the monitor. Quickly unplugging the computer, Q tries to stop the viral upload. When Bond finally arrives at Silva's cell, it's too late: Silva has already murdered both of his guards and disappeared. Bond dashes through MI6 headquarters to reach Silva's cell. Bond observes Silva escaping into the tunnels and discovers that a maintenance hatch in the floor has been removed. Down a staircase goes Bond. He notices Silva descending another stairway further into the tunnel. A service door leads to a tunnel for the London Underground as Bond descends the stairs, draws his gun, and exits the building. Silva has obviously spent years planning his move, blowing up the regular headquarters knowing that MI6 would move down here and aware of every emergency protocol, Q informs Bond via his headpiece as he continues to walk down the track. Bond reveals upon his return that he is concerned about what will take place next: Silva will go after M directly. To his dismay, the next service door is jammed when he arrives at it. Particularly when he hears an approaching train, he becomes anxious. Bond tries unsuccessfully to push the door open. Finally, he shoots the lock, narrowly escaping the train by jumping into the service tunnel.
